The one exception: Provincial Offences (traffic) matters are heard separately, at the Durham Region Provincial Offences Court, 605 Rossland Road East, Whitby, Ontario L1N 6A3, in Whitby — not downtown. Legal Solutions Law Firm, a full-service law firm, appears at both regularly.

As the largest city in Durham Region and home to Ontario Tech University and Durham College, Oshawa also happens to host the building where the region's family law gets decided. Divorce, parenting, child and spousal support, property division — none of it is split across two different courts here the way it can be elsewhere, because Oshawa is designated a Unified Family Court site: the Superior Court of Justice's Family Court branch handles the whole caseload at 150 Bond Street East. Being steps from the courthouse doesn't speed up the process, but it does mean we're there constantly. Read more about family law in Oshawa →
Charges against Oshawa residents land at that same Bond Street building, split between the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice depending on severity. What decides how a case unfolds isn't geography, it's timing — counsel retained in the first days after arrest can still influence bail terms and set the tone the Crown takes going forward. We've built our criminal practice around being in that courthouse routinely: bail court, Crown pre-trials, and trial work when a resolution short of that isn't on the table. Despite having the region's main courthouse, Oshawa drivers still have to go elsewhere for a ticket: Highway Traffic Act matters are prosecuted at the Durham Region Provincial Offences Court on Rossland Road in Whitby, a different municipality entirely from the Bond Street building that handles everything else. Simply paying the fine still adds demerit points and follows you into your insurance renewal for years. We pull the officer's notes and disclosure before deciding on strategy, and most Part 1 and Part 3 tickets resolve without you setting foot in a courtroom at all. Unlike traffic matters, civil disputes stay put: Small Claims Court for Oshawa residents is a branch of the Superior Court of Justice, heard downtown at the same Bond Street courthouse. Since the October 2025 increase to a $50,000 ceiling, that covers nearly everything we see come out of Oshawa — invoices gone unpaid, a renovation that went sideways, a landlord withholding a deposit without cause. Filing the claim properly the first time avoids losing weeks to amendments later, and we carry the file through the settlement conference and, if it doesn't settle, trial. I had such a stressful time trying to find legal help. I felt lost and hopeless when I got a notice to appear at the LTB. When I found Ryan, he stepped up and defended me. He’s knowledgeable about both the LTB and criminal law, and most importantly he’s tough! Exactly what I was looking for. I’m so glad I found him.
I wish I could add five more stars to show how happy we are with the legal services of Ryan J. Manilla and his team. They took charge of our legal matters, worked tirelessly on short notice, and delivered outstanding legal documents on time.
