Demerit points and convictions drive insurance premiums up for years. We fight to keep your record clean and your rates where they should be.
We request over 30 specific items of disclosure from the Crown. If it is not provided within a reasonable time, we push to have the charge withdrawn entirely.
No hourly billing. No charge every time you call. You know your cost upfront, and flexible payment plans make quality legal defence accessible.
Traffic Offences We Defend
Tickets & Charges We Fight
We defend the full range of Highway Traffic Act offences across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. If your offence is not listed, call us — we can help.
Our Approach
How We Fight Your Ticket
Call or text us anytime — 24/7. We review your ticket, explain exactly what you are facing, and map out the best strategy to protect your licence and insurance rates.
Traffic tickets have strict deadlines — Part 1 tickets must be filed within 15 days. We act immediately to file for a trial date and protect your rights from the start.
We request all evidence the prosecution holds — over 30 specific items. If disclosure is incomplete or delayed, we push to have the charge withdrawn entirely.
We attend court on your behalf — you do not need to be there. We negotiate directly with the Crown or prosecutor to secure the best possible resolution, often reducing or withdrawing the charge.
If a fair deal cannot be reached, we prepare and fight at trial. Rules of evidence, witness cross-examination, and legal argument all apply — and we know how to use every tool available.
If your licence has been suspended, we assist with reinstatement applications and ensure every step is handled correctly to get you back on the road as quickly as possible.

Traffic Tickets — What You Need to Know
You Got a Ticket — Now What?
You feel helpless, scared, worried about the consequences, or you know you did nothing wrong. All of these are normal reactions. The important thing is to act quickly and not simply pay the fine.
Paying the ticket is the same as pleading guilty. That means a conviction on your driving record, demerit points, and potentially years of higher insurance premiums. Whatever the ticket is for, call a lawyer before you do anything else.
Part 1 vs. Part 3 Tickets
The two most common types of traffic tickets in Ontario are Part 1 and Part 3. A Part 1 ticket has a fine amount at the bottom — this covers most moving violations: speeding, running a red light, careless driving. You have 15 days to respond. We file for a trial date immediately.
A Part 3 ticket (also called a summons) has a court date instead of a fine and is generally more serious — penalties can include licence suspensions and, in some cases, jail. Call us immediately if you receive a Part 3 summons.
Disclosure — Your Most Powerful Tool
After filing for a trial date, we request all the evidence the prosecution holds. This includes the officer's notes, calibration records for any speed measurement device, radar logs, any video footage, and over 30 additional specific items.
The prosecution is legally obligated to provide this material within a reasonable time. In our experience, disclosure is frequently incomplete. When material is missing or delayed, we apply to have the charge withdrawn — and it works more often than most people realize.
Negotiation & Trial
Similar to criminal matters, we speak with the prosecutor and negotiate the best possible deal. We present all offers to you — you always make the final decision. In many cases, a ticket can be reduced to a lesser offence with fewer or zero demerit points.
If no fair deal is available, we go to trial. Rules of evidence apply, witnesses are summoned, and skilled cross-examination of the officer can be the difference between a conviction and a dismissal. Trials can last a few hours to a few days.
As for the common question about officers not showing up: they appear over 95% of the time. They are paid to attend. Do not rely on that as a strategy.
Stunt Driving — The Most Serious HTA Offence
Ontario's stunt driving provisions are severe. A conviction can result in a licence suspension of 1 to 3 years, significant fines, and sharply elevated insurance rates once your licence is reinstated — often for several years afterward.
Stunt driving is not treated as a minor ticket. If you have been charged, contact us immediately. These matters require immediate and aggressive legal defence from the outset.
Why the Consequences Are Bigger Than You Think
Many people underestimate the real cost of a traffic conviction:
- No Insurance: First-time conviction carries a fine of approximately $6,250 all-in.
- Drive Under Suspension: Can lead to a jail sentence and an additional driving suspension.
- Careless Driving: 6 demerit points — insurers may cancel your policy entirely.
- Stunt Driving: 1–3 year licence suspension plus years of high-risk insurance.
The long-term insurance cost of a single serious conviction almost always exceeds the cost of a lawyer to fight it.

Why Legal Solutions
A Lawyer Who Actually Fights for You
Most traffic ticket services use paralegals. At Legal Solutions Law Firm, you get a lawyer with over 15 years at the Ontario Bar managing your file. That matters — in the quality of the negotiation, in the courtroom, and in the result.
We understand that driving is not a luxury for most people — it is how you get to work, take care of your family, and function day to day. Losing your licence or facing years of inflated insurance is a real and serious consequence. We fight accordingly.
Client Testimonials
What Our Clients Say
I was charged with stunt driving and panicked — I had no idea the penalties were so serious. Ryan explained everything clearly, took on the Crown aggressively, and got the charge significantly reduced. My licence is intact and my insurance didn't go through the roof. I can't thank Legal Solutions enough.
I had a careless driving charge that I was told would result in 6 demerit points and possible policy cancellation. Ryan got it withdrawn entirely. I have zero points, no conviction, and my insurance renewal came back unchanged. Worth every penny and then some.
I had two tickets at once — speeding and a no-insurance issue. I was terrified about the fines and my licence. Ryan handled both, negotiated hard, and resolved everything without the outcomes I was dreading. He was straightforward, fast, and actually answered my calls. Highly recommend.
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Defending Traffic Tickets Across Toronto and the GTA
From My Experience: Traffic Tickets Cost Far More Than People Realize
The most common thing I hear when someone calls about a traffic ticket is some version of "it's just a speeding ticket, is it really worth fighting?" I understand why people think that. The fine looks manageable. The court process sounds complicated. And paying it and moving on feels like the path of least resistance. In my experience, that calculation almost always turns out to be wrong.
Here is what most people don't factor in: insurance. A single speeding conviction — depending on how far over the limit you were — can increase your insurance premium by 15 to 25 percent, sometimes more, and that increase sticks around for three years. Do the math on your current premium. A lawyer's flat fee is often less than what you will pay in extra insurance in the first six months alone, let alone over three years. And that is for a relatively minor ticket. For careless driving, stunt driving, or no insurance, the numbers are far worse.
What I've Seen That Surprises People
Clients are often surprised by how often cases get withdrawn before they even reach trial. The disclosure process is something most self-represented people don't know exists, let alone know how to use properly. We request over 30 specific items from the Crown — officer notes, calibration certificates for the speed device, any communication records, logbooks. Prosecutors are busy. Evidence is sometimes missing, incomplete, or late. When it is, we move to withdraw the charge, and that motion succeeds more often than people expect.
The officer-not-showing-up question comes up in almost every first consultation. People have heard stories about tickets getting thrown out because the officer didn't appear. I always tell clients the same thing: officers show up over 95% of the time. They are paid specifically to attend. Recent court decisions have even allowed convictions to proceed without officer attendance in certain circumstances. Building your defence around the hope that the officer won't show is not a strategy — it's a gamble with your licence and your insurance rates.
The one thing I feel most strongly about is this: there is a meaningful difference between having a lawyer handle your traffic matter and having a paralegal handle it. A lawyer can appear in any court, can escalate a matter to Superior Court if needed, can cross-examine more aggressively, and has a fundamentally different standing in negotiations. For a serious charge — stunt driving, drive under suspension, no insurance — that difference matters. For any charge, it matters more than most people think. If you have received any traffic ticket in Toronto or the GTA, call us before you do anything else. The consultation is free and there is no obligation: 416-274-2222.
